I created lots of rolls for reggae, soul, bee bop, etc. With the help of a friend who is a pro drummer and a td20, but only as midi files, and it really seems that midi has become uninteresting for many computer based composers for some reason....

I'm not sure what you are using to program drums, but if you set the "flam" along with the correct timing/notation, you should be able to make drum rolls using the samples you are already using to make the beat. I mean, why would you want to use someone else's rolls that don't match the set you are using? Like bobzy said, its all in the midi information- you can make perfect drum rolls that fit with some patience and time.

If you are a logic user there is always the possibility to record some of your favourite drumrolls from record or cd, then press the audio to midi button and get a midi file from them. Just fiddle about with the resulting file(s)until it fits to your song. Sometimes moving some notes from the snare to a tom or two will give you the kind of thing you may be looking for.
You can of course use these files in any program for drums..... I think you can do the same with melodine as well. Last edited by Bobzyeruncle; 02-03-2010 at 11:32 AM. Reason: added. |

DRUM TRACK ZONE - Midi Drum Patterns, Breakbeats, Drum Samples
THis is what I found in my first attempt using my widely acclaimed "google-fu". I don't vouch for the site but it appeares to have alot to look at and sift through. May be worth the effort. good luck |
