Hi Yaba
I think that all live music and arts are in a decline to some extent Yaba, because the economy is pure shite and people are rethinking if they can actually justify going out when money is so tight for many and entertainment is really a luxury..
It shouldn't be thought of that way, but there's such a large gap between the cost of going out versus the money people are making these days..
Not entirely unrelated (sorry I'm not really too informed about what happened to Dub specifically) but over here in NY, if you want to go to anything cultural, you have to pay out the nose.. You can expect to pay over 100 dollars for tix to the theatre, or classical or opera.. Jazz clubs are charging between 30 and 90 dollars just for the show and then you are expected to have a two drink minimum, and food etc..
This is all in the last 13 or so years..
And large stadium shows??? I haven't really felt like I could go for ages..
Damn.. Still remember when going to a rock concert at Nassau Colosseum or Madison Square Garden would only cost you 12 dollars for *good* seats... Now depending on the gig, it is about on average 10 times that.

Biggest love to Creation Rockas and I, for one, am enjoying hearing you and *wish* I could be there on a regular basis to see you and make some vibes too
If my Bro ever comes through with those double citizenship passports for me and Richie, I hope I can live there, even if it's just for Summers.

Meanwhile.. Big respect to you for your passion and commitment to what you love!!!
Just keep at it and get the Dub out there!

Debs xx

Feel you Yaba !!!

I hope that in some way or another you can go on doing what you love ,...

Honestly I don´t go out much my self anymore, and if I attended one of the
very few dub-things here people would likely ask "who is that old man" ,..

Still dub is my passion ,.. I went out to see Lee Parry, and several times also
Mad Professor, now all there is in Copenhagen is late sound-systems always
the day before a working day, and some dancehall that i dont care about,...

puhhhh getting old here

Bless

Yes, Debs, you have a valid point here. I remember days, when it was possible to go to a club, have a few drinks and watch a show for less cash than it takes to have a great meal at a restaurant. Today it is the completely other way. Today, at least here in Germoney, even great restaurants have f*ckin' cheap prices but if you want to visit a concert, spend a night at the club, it eats up a big part of what I earn per month. Also a whole lot of clubs have been closed down at Hamburgtown (the entertainment city) and were replaced by Techno discos where so called DJs spin allways the same sound and being payed with very little money. We are living in bad times for art and quality entertainment. Thanks to hardcore capitalism for that. But, hey, still if I say that cpitalism is sh*t, people tell that it is the best shitstem forever and ever and ever... how many financial crisis ruining peoples lifes and culture will mankind need to wake up? Well this crisis is not over yet. I expect the worst part to come. We'll see if maybe people will wake up some day and hang the responsible greedheads high

question to everyone: how much $$ is the price of tickets for a soundsystem/reggae party in Europe or the USA? and how much $$ for a beer?

Well, that differs a lot and depends on who plays at which place. Most venues I know charge about 5 Euros for a beer. I have not been to any soundsystem gig recently so I cannot really say how much it costs. Entry fee for sure has changed since I visited my last Reggaeparty... wow, now that I think about it...has been a while... to much work

I REMEMBER Attending the first UK Dub conference in London and only about 3 of us turned up ?

*LOL*

Has the wheel one might be broken on twice fruited and been played down ?

Dub conferences aside - Perhaps people would attend concerts etc if they were all free & perhaps it is the artists duty to feed and water them also for free ?

I WOULD
