I Choose ReggaeDubwise....
After I posted a short diatribe on the original Versionist dot com a few weeks ago ,Rob responded with a personal emal the same day .The "other guy" (whom for lack of a proper name we'll call "Steve") has not only refused to respond to my inquiries publicly but privately as well. So it wasn't hard to choose this site over the other...THIS site is obviously about the artist, while the other one ,by all appearances, seems to be a vehicle of an egomanaical fool .As Mikey used to say about such guys"Bwoy ,when dem non-Jamaican's start foolin round with reggae bizzness like it's them control it dem nah know wha dem in for ,trust me .ya 'ave fi respect di roots , maan".I know for sure the DATC would have had issues with "Steve's" Maoist rewrite of reggae history (anyone read this ??) ."Reggae is SLOWER than rocksteady ??"
"Dancehall was originated in 1980 by Shabba??"
LOL.
Based on what's goin on here as opposed to there it's a no-brainer-I choose REGGAEDUBWISE as a new home for my creative works. Rest in Peace Versionist Dot Com...Rest in Peace

ONLY the forum ? The whole site chaffes my hide !

I hate to be so bitter about it, it's just the vibe there is too...um,cult-like.........but als ,it's HIS site..don't know if yer familiar with a 90's film noir short called "BOB IS LOVE" where the protaganist,BOB,is a worshiped,Big Brother like character..?
THAT"S what "Steve's Versionist" reminds me of...I don't want to be one who judges folks by apearances, but actions themselves also speak louder than pictures...

Yup - I agree that Steve has no feel for the people or the music and an exchange on the versionist forum with him earlier in the week means that I no longer will put my tunes up on versionist - one more time, I say thanks to Rob for putting this place together.
What I didn't expect was to miss that old versionist site so much. I really feel like there is something missing from my day now that I can't check my fellow versionistas words and music on that ugly old site. I expect that over time this will get less but damn I'm missing that place..............

Bredrin.
My respect.
I am glad you are happy with ReggaeDubwise.com and look forward to hearing what you do with it. It is a certain shame what happened at that other site. My decision to create this site had EVERYTHING to do with the fact the community was one step short of homeless. I explained to the owner at Versionist his banning of people like Ganjah Fyah Dub and Carl Horton for standing up and speaking true words for the community was unforgivable on Mar 17 St Pats in the forum. He didn't ban me but said "you are right Irish Moss I need to think about this. Thanks." Well what do you do when you make allegations a man has behaved poorly towards a community, lied to them and disrespected them and then he agrees, doesn't apologize or fix his actions? Both GFD and Carl, the former owner of Versionist that maintained it free of charge for a solid year while the new owner was on absentee were BANNED. Both of these people bent over backwards for that community.
This isn't China. It will be if we let these things slide. I must admit there wasn't more vocal support that day in defense of Carl and GFD. In truth, I became more saddened in 2007 with Versionist til this was inevitable. I felt that bickering on forums was folly and building a new home for a soon to be refugee community was what had to be done.
I give thanks that ReggaeDubwise.com is satisfying peoples needs as artists, producers, labels and listeners. My ear is always open to your thoughts. I may take a day to get back though I'm trying to be as quick as I can. I am trying to develop productive avenues for this site and hope to see the artists reach a bigger and more dynamic audience. My hopes are we can dissolve the secular veil that has hidden this community from the masses for sometime. There is too much talent and good music that needs to be heard and recognized. It would overjoy me to see artists from this site be able to distribute their music internationally.
ReggaeDubwise.com is going to be here for the duration. The stats are accurate in the month one. I am very happy with what I see. I thank you all for making it possible and the warm support that you have shown. I am positive we will make this a powerful website that reaches many ears and lives.
Bless
Rob Connelly

Ali-Your community is alive. It's comprised of living men and women. Their house fell in. They have a new home. Let them know. A beautiful palace and property with one man alone is not a fortune.

Steve is an arrogant ignorant fool!.....and i will certainly NOT be stepping foot in that place........just look at the crap he is prepared to advertise for the sake of a mere couple of bucks!!.....i saw an advert for a "really cool cell phone gun"........THAT was the last straw!
If i'd have known about what happened to Carl and GFD.....I would have CERTAINLY given Steve a piece of my mind!
....and he strikes a canny resemblance to Micheal Barrymore!!

I agree Rob - the community is alive - its just living in a couple of different places at the moment.
You have to admire guys like Don Fe, El Bib and I rebel and the rest who are really trying hard to keep versionist alive and rescue the archive (and its true that most of them have a bigger commitment over a longer time scale than me - which makes their sense of potential loss much greater than mine) - but I fear that even they will have to give in in the face of continued wilful denial by the owner of the reality of the situation. Without a proper front page and a properly indexed forum its just too much work for the dedicated versionist never mind the casual visitor.
Anyway, at least this place is functioning well - so many new people who I never saw over at versionist - its a whole new community building itself and settling in here.
Thanks again for putting it together......

I just can say, that things are going the way they have to go. See, this whole stuff doesn't bother me much, because I am too busy to mess with that "death of a webshite"-drama. But as I said: All is going the way it must go. I'm glad to see that a lot of people realized that a real community is never centralized at a single website, club... whatever. WE are the community. Not a server or a content mangement shitstem makes up a community. It's the people! So, friends & freaks: Let's make music and be happy that we all are here

respex...
I said I'd avoid the forums...so much for that !
When I saw this title, I couldn't resist...Versionist.com had it's time, but it takes a reggae-lover to put heart-and-soul into an online music community. Just seeing the genre-cloud here was a sigh of relief, imho ! Hats off, Rob.
