Without even getting into the legal technicalities, there's a serious breach of trust when a site owner passes on music tracks which were uploaded to a specific community website - either to be used by another website or to be made available on a torrent.
As originator of that music I'd expect to be asked for my permission. I didn't upload tracks to Versionist to have them there for posterity (if you want that then use archive.org, it's free, non-profit and pretty much guaranteed to make your music available for generations to come).
The reason I uploaded my tracks was to be part of a community and to get feedback from people who love, understand and respect reggae music. As far as I'm concerned the tribe has moved on and I now choose to upload my new music to RDW. For old times' sake I'll be uploading a selection of 'greatest hits' from the old site but I'm looking to the future, not the past.

ah come on man, im sure most of the artists would be chuffed to find out ppl all over the world are downloading their tracks by torrent, i mean does the average person ask persmission before downloading an album or a movie? its distribution at the end of the day and if you post a tune for free on the net you cant expect anything less or more, if you get a thousand more fans because of it who's lost? personally id rather have listeners than money in my pocket but maybe thats just me... if you dont want piracy dont post your tunes on the net, simple as
but thats thinking legal aside
EDIT: in fact i saw your name on torrent, dunno if its the same artist but you know, its always more fans
