date Tue, May 20, 2008 at 12:18 PM subject ReggaeDubvise offer to Versionist Steve ReggaeDubwise.com does not want to lose that old site's data. It is the only value that is of interest to me. The members have stated their desires to me that I am to archive it for public access. We would like you to transfer the cost of the OLD site server to ReggaeDubwise.com. I will take over payment immediately on the old server. I will get the old database and forum off of that server as soon as possible. I will paypal you $2500 as soon as you agree. You can transfer all info over to ReggaeDubwise.com at this time. This will include domain registration for versionist.com and versionist.net and all admin passwords to the old site and to the new jamroom site. ReggaeDubwise.com takes ownership right away for both domains and sites once paypal is sent. Both ReggaeDubwise.com and Versionist.com make an announcement to current members about the deal being made. Within 90 days ReggaeDubwise.com will pay you another $1500. We will sign and fax an agreement stating this as contract. So our offer is 2500 down NOW with another 1500 within 90 days for a total offer of $4000. TIme is of the essence. I do not want to sit on this and let the abuse from members increase. I stated my personal issues with you in a respectful way on Mar 17, 2008. This is business. All negative posts will be deleted and we move on with our lives. I expect to hear back from you immediately. Time is running out. The community has stated their wishes. to R Connelly date Wed, May 21, 2008 at 11:41 AM subject Re: ReggaeDubvise offer to Versionist mailed-by gmail.com hide details 11:41 AM (1 hour ago) Reply Rob- Thank you for the offer. I would consider selling versionist.com and .net at $7500, which price would still represent a substantial loss to me. $4000 now $2000 60 days $1500 120 days The new site would not be part of the deal as I just paid for the JR software as well as some programming. You could certainly have total access to the database to pull all the versionist info from it though. The rest of your terms would be acceptable. Steve |

from R Connelly
to versionist7@gmail.com date Wed, May 21, 2008 at 12:43 PM subject My last words mailed-by gmail.com hide details 12:43 PM (7 minutes ago) Steve I retracted my offer at the close of day yesterday. You took too long and I expected another delusional response from you. This one takes the cake. You are trying to profit off the database of tracks that are not in your ownership. This is in direct violation of your community's trust and agreement. I made you a generous offer. I considered it a consolation prize for your experience in reggae music. I warned you on the phone your first day of business if you didn't respect the culture and tradition of reggae and heed my warning it would be your undoing. You were an irresponsible absentee owner of a very valuable site for one year. At the end of one year's time you had destroyed that very site to the current state it's in now. A complete mockery of over one years hardwork on my part as a developer and 4 years of involvement as an Artist. You have absolutely no right to sell the value of those tracks and forum postings that you are going to destroy. I didn't want your site. I was trying to provide a service to the community that you dismantled and I have given a new home. This is exactly the kind of foul play along with silencing your critics that I brought up on Mar 17, 2008. You said I was right and that you needed to think about what you were doing. You thanked me. I thought you may have realized how much this was going to cost you when less than 7 days later my site had more members signed up and more music streamed then your site. ReggaeDubwise.com is currently streaming about 7 times the songs your site is in a 24 hour period. That is 2100 streams to your 300 in plain math. Your site is valueless. I am sorry you aren't even aware of that yet. It is losing value by the hour. It will continue to dwindle to an even more sorry state, if that can be believed. When you purchase a company, are elected into an office or take any leadership role you accept that you are held to a higher level of responsibility than those you lead. These are the words of His Imperial Majesty Haile I Selassie I Jah Rastafari. You have failed your job miserably and let down the Versionist Community in a most disgraceful manner. I am not interested in your site new or old. I am not interested in your database. I am not interested in doing business with a dishonorable man. Please accept this as my final communication with you. I do not respect you at all. I will be forthcoming with your shady dealings concerning trying to profit from music you didn't make. It is my hope that you remember the 10's of thousands you lost every time you hear reggae music playing. Remember phone call first day? I told you that Reggae is the modern Nyahbinghi. You forgot the definition. I would use wikipedia or whatever it is that you use to appear in the know while clueless and look it up. Wow! I'm glad you said what you did. Straight talk.
Your offer was so generous Rob. What shameless greed. Unreal!!! Makes me sick. I'm canceling my account over there now. There's no need for me to be there now, and I can't associate myself with someone who is so quick to sell out someone else's stuff to profit, beyond that which is fair, to benefit their greedy self. Forwaaaard RDW! Bless Debs |

well ive just had a long chat with zach jackson and were both vexed with the current v situation.i dont really think of it as versionist anymore.the thing that really pisses me off is that don fe has had his viss radio show going for a couple of years, viss germany have done many gigs promoting the site, dubzone podcasts featuring mostly versionist music, numerous links to many reggae places.seems all in vein.the general feeling is that after the august gathering ,we will all move here permanently and delete our accounts there unless he sells up or some sort of merger happens before then,i dont think thats going to happen ,so thats it basically.zach mentioned that hes started deleting any posts that even slightly criticise his ownership, once more showing his autocratic nature.i recommend he reads king lear by william shakespeare.

You know, John, I remember a time when you were ready to delete your account. The things that were so jacked up then are these same things basically. Really it is a bit odd how deep some of us feel about this scene. Obviously it is not a site. The core has moved and transitioned with ease for the most part. All that was left as far as Versionist goes is sentimentality. But for what? I think that part that we feel the loss of is the habit of visiting the website. Habits die hard. I spoke to Rob a long while back about hoping it would die off in finality so that I wouldn't have to visit it and witness what it had become. I think all of us have gone through tremendous changes that have been shared by the scene that has become a real circle of friends. That is all still alive. I remember you going through the loss of your friend Elvis. I remember Pete Murdertone's Dad passing. I remember all the serious fights and bickering. Even the ones that went on for ages. Marcus vs. Notwen. Everyone it seems vs. Alionsonny, me vs' Messian Dread etc etc etc... these things all have had impacts on us and who we are really. All of those things forward with us and are not lost. I was thrilled to find that I had friends that had more diligently than I did documented my music progress by getting and keeping every song. I bet Rob has most of them too. I didn't until I-Rebel sent them to me. What is the value of this? These needs and connections and friendship are not met by a Website. But solely by the people who have blessed the site. If the owner was not a blessing, oh well. That is gone but the people have not scattered. They couldn't have. And I don't think anything could have forced them. See, for me it is not about the gigs or anything like that. For me it is knowing people who feel what I feel. In my town I really don't know anyone that knows Reggae. If they do know it they think of only Bob Marley. What is the value of coming into contact with people that are going in the same direction as you? What is the value of getting to know people who can help you and inspire you and challenge you? What is the value of real friends? Yes indeed, many of us get on each others nerves and some think that they cannot stand each other, but I have to ask, what makes Alionsonny stay? He has always challenged that system. He never tried to fit the mold, but he still stayed through all the fights. I hope to see Paul777 come through here. Why? I do feel as if we are family.
So I am done being vexed. My wife has to go to an orthopedic oncologist next week to deal with some bone tumors. So really this issue with Versionist is starting to fade for me. It is a matter of perspective. We would appreciate the prayers of this family. Blessins |
