I would be very cautious about producing a CD these days. Many CD's by some of the big name artists do not sell very much. People like something if it is free (download mp3), but if they have to pay then it is different. FREE mp3's are a good promotion and you can make some money selling mp3's. (Probably not a lot of money at .99 a pop)
